Surrounded by lush forests and pristine streams, the Hakushu Distillery is a testament to Suntory's commitment to crafting exceptional whisky in harmony with nature. Prepare to be captivated by the beauty of the location and the artistry of the whisky-making process. Established in 1973, the Hakushu Distillery was Suntory's second malt whisky distillery, built to complement the Yamazaki Distillery. Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky, had previously worked at Suntory and helped establish the Yamazaki Distillery. The Hakushu Distillery was built to create a different style of whisky, one that reflected the unique terroir of the Japanese Alps. The high altitude, pure water, and cool climate contribute to the distinctive character of Hakushu whisky. The distillery's commitment to sustainability is evident in its use of local resources and its efforts to protect the surrounding environment. A visit to the Hakushu Distillery offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of Japanese whisky. Take a guided tour to learn about the whisky-making process, from malting and fermentation to distillation and maturation. Sample a range of Hakushu whiskies, including limited-edition releases and distillery-exclusive bottlings. Explore the distillery's museum, which showcases the history of Suntory and the art of whisky making. For a truly immersive experience, take a walk through the surrounding forests and enjoy the tranquility of the Japanese Alps.
