Known as the "Rising Castle," it was once home to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. Tokugawa Ieyasu resided here for 17 years, from 1570 to 1586, during which time he rose to prominence. Several other lords who later became important figures in the Edo shogunate also resided in Hamamatsu Castle, earning it the nickname "Promotion Castle." The current castle tower is a reconstruction, but the stone walls and moat remain as reminders of its historical significance. Visitors can explore the castle grounds, climb the reconstructed castle tower for stunning views, and visit the Hamamatsu City Museum located within the park to learn more about the castle's history and the surrounding area. The park surrounding the castle is also a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing in the spring. While there are no specific culinary traditions directly linked to the castle, the surrounding area offers a variety of local restaurants serving Hamamatsu specialties.
Transportation
From Hamamatsu Station, take the Entetsu Bus bound for Okuyama or Iijima. Get off at the 'Hamamatsu-jo Koen Iriguchi' bus stop. The journey takes approximately 10 minutes, followed by a short walk to the castle.
