Imagine yourself as a citizen of Ostia, unwinding after a long day in the frigidarium, tepidarium, or caldarium, surrounded by the sights and sounds of a bustling bathhouse. The Baths of Neptune were built in the 2nd century AD, during the reign of Emperor Hadrian, and were among the largest and most elaborate bath complexes in Ostia Antica. The baths were named after the god Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, and were decorated with a large mosaic depicting Neptune and his entourage. The complex included a variety of bathing rooms, including cold, warm, and hot baths, as well as a gymnasium, changing rooms, and gardens. The baths were a popular gathering place for the citizens of Ostia, who came to socialize, exercise, and relax. A visit to the Terme di Nettuno is a must for anyone interested in Roman history and culture. Marvel at the well-preserved mosaics, particularly the iconic Neptune mosaic, which showcases the artistic skill of the Roman artisans.
