Gardens of Augustus Guide
A Floral Paradise with Breathtaking Views Guide
Welcome to the Gardens of Augustus, a stunning botanical oasis perched on the cliffs of Capri, offering panoramic views of the island's dramatic coastline. These meticulously manicured gardens are a must-see for any visitor to Capri, providing a tranquil escape and unparalleled photo opportunities. Prepare to be captivated by the vibrant colors of the flowers, the fragrant Mediterranean flora, and the breathtaking vistas that stretch out before you. Originally known as the Krupp Gardens, they were created in the early 20th century by the German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp. Krupp, a frequent visitor to Capri, commissioned the gardens to connect his hotel, the Grand Hotel Quisisana, with Marina Piccola and Marina Grande. The gardens were later renamed in honor of Emperor Augustus. The Via Krupp, a winding pathway carved into the cliffs, was also part of Krupp's project, though it is often closed for safety reasons due to rockfalls. Visitors can stroll through the terraced gardens, admiring the diverse collection of plants and flowers, including geraniums, dahlias, and bougainvillea. The gardens offer spectacular views of the Faraglioni rocks, the Bay of Marina Piccola, and Mount Solaro. Don't miss the opportunity to capture stunning photographs of the iconic Capri landscape. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition directly tied to the Gardens of Augustus, you'll find numerous restaurants and cafes nearby in Capri town offering delicious local cuisine, including fresh seafood and Caprese salad.
