Trullo Sovrano Guide
Trullo Sovrano: The King of Trulli Guide
Step inside Trullo Sovrano, the largest and only two-story trullo in Alberobello! This impressive structure offers a fascinating glimpse into the history and architecture of these unique dwellings. Unlike the other trulli in the town, Trullo Sovrano stands out with its grandeur and its use as a museum and event space. It's a must-see for anyone wanting to delve deeper into the story behind these iconic buildings. Built in the 18th century by the Perta family, Trullo Sovrano served as a residence for a wealthy priest. Its size and construction were a deliberate display of status and power. The interior is divided into several rooms, showcasing traditional furnishings and artifacts that depict life in a trullo during that era. The building also served as a church for a short period. Today, Trullo Sovrano functions as a museum, offering visitors a chance to explore the interior and learn about the history of the trulli and the local culture. You can wander through the rooms, admiring the traditional furniture and tools. The upper floor often hosts temporary exhibitions and cultural events. While in Alberobello, be sure to sample local delicacies like *taralli* (savory crackers) and *burrata* cheese, often served with fresh tomatoes and basil.
