Borujerdi House Guide
A Jewel of Persian Architecture: Discover Borujerdi House Guide
The Borujerdi House (Khaneh Borujerdiha) in Kashan, Iran, is a stunning example of traditional Persian residential architecture. This historical house, built in the 19th century, showcases intricate stucco work, elaborate frescoes, and ingenious ventilation systems designed to combat the desert heat. It's a must-see for anyone interested in Persian art, architecture, and culture. The Borujerdi House was built in 1857 by a wealthy merchant named Seyyed Mehdi Borujerdi. Legend has it that he commissioned the house to impress his bride, who came from the affluent Tabatabaei family (whose own historic house is also a major attraction in Kashan). The house was designed by the renowned architect Ustad Ali Maryam, who also designed the nearby Tabatabaei House and the Aminoddole Caravanserai. The house served as both a residence and a place of business for the Borujerdi family. Visitors to the Borujerdi House can marvel at the exquisite details of the interior and exterior. The central courtyard features a beautiful pool and garden, providing a tranquil oasis. The main hall is adorned with intricate stucco carvings, colorful frescoes depicting scenes from Persian mythology and history, and stained-glass windows that filter the sunlight. The house also features a sophisticated ventilation system, including windcatchers (badgirs) that draw cool air into the building. Kashan is famous for its rosewater and traditional sweets. While the Borujerdi House itself doesn't offer food, you can find numerous shops and cafes in the surrounding bazaar selling these local delicacies.
