Narmada Park: A Miniature Replica of Mount Rinjani's Lake Guide
Step back in time and explore the serene beauty of Narmada Park, a historical park built in 1727 by King Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Karangasem of the Balinese kingdom. Located in West Lombok, this park is a fascinating blend of Balinese and Sasak cultures, featuring temples, gardens, and a miniature replica of Mount Rinjani's Segara Anak lake. It's a peaceful oasis offering a glimpse into Lombok's rich history and cultural heritage. Narmada Park was originally built as a place of worship for the Hindu king and his family. The park's design is based on the concept of Mount Rinjani, Lombok's sacred volcano, and its crater lake, Segara Anak. The miniature lake within the park was created to allow the king to perform his religious rituals without having to make the arduous journey to the actual mountain. The park also features a temple dedicated to Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism. Visitors to Narmada Park can explore the various temples and pavilions, wander through the beautifully landscaped gardens, and take a dip in the holy water of the miniature Segara Anak lake. It is believed that drinking or bathing in this water can bring good luck and youthfulness. You can also climb the Bale Petirtaan, a tower offering panoramic views of the park and the surrounding countryside. Local vendors sell traditional snacks and drinks within the park, allowing you to enjoy a taste of Lombok's culinary heritage. Try the local rujak, a fruit salad with a spicy peanut sauce.
Transportation
Narmada Park is easily accessible by public transportation (bemo) from Mataram. Look for bemos heading towards Narmada. Alternatively, you can rent a scooter or hire a taxi or private car. The park is located about 10 kilometers east of Mataram, making it a short and convenient trip.
