Sipiso Piso Waterfall is one of Indonesia's tallest waterfalls, cascading down from a height of approximately 120 meters. The name "Sipiso Piso" translates to "like a knife," referring to the sharp, narrow stream of water that plunges into the valley below. The waterfall is formed by a small underground river that emerges from a cave high on the plateau. The surrounding area is lush and green, with panoramic views of Lake Toba and the surrounding hills. While the waterfall itself doesn't have a specific historical significance, it has long been a natural landmark and a source of wonder for the local people. Visitors can hike down to the base of the waterfall for a closer look, but be prepared for a steep and challenging descent. The views from the bottom are well worth the effort, as you can feel the mist and hear the roar of the water. There are also several viewpoints along the rim of the canyon that offer stunning panoramic views. Local vendors sell snacks and drinks near the entrance. Transportation
To reach Sipiso Piso Waterfall, you can take a bus from Medan to Kabanjahe. From Kabanjahe, you can hire a local minibus (angkot) or taxi to the waterfall. The journey from Kabanjahe takes approximately 1 hour. Alternatively, you can rent a car or motorbike from Medan or Parapat. The road to the waterfall is generally well-maintained.
