Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a beginner, Mount Sibayak provides a rewarding and memorable experience. Mount Sibayak is a stratovolcano, characterized by its conical shape and layers of lava and ash. While it's considered an active volcano, its last major eruption was in 1881. Today, the volcano is known for its geothermal activity, with steaming vents and sulfurous hot springs dotting the landscape. The hike to the summit takes approximately 2-3 hours, depending on your fitness level and the chosen route. Hiking Mount Sibayak is the main activity, offering breathtaking views and a chance to witness volcanic activity up close. You can explore the crater rim, marvel at the steaming vents, and soak in the natural hot springs at the base of the mountain (some require a small fee). Many hikers choose to start their ascent early in the morning to catch the sunrise from the summit. Berastagi is known for its fresh produce, so be sure to visit the local market and sample the local fruits and vegetables. Also, try the Jagung Bakar (grilled corn) sold by vendors near the volcano.
