Taman Tirtagangga Guide
Royal Water Garden: Find Serenity at Taman Tirtagangga Guide
Escape the hustle and bustle of Bali's more crowded areas and discover the tranquil beauty of Taman Tirtagangga, a former royal water palace in East Bali. This enchanting garden features a series of pools, fountains, and sculptures, all set against a backdrop of lush rice paddies and rolling hills. It's a place to relax, reflect, and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Bali. Taman Tirtagangga, meaning "water of the Ganges," was built in 1948 by the late King of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem Agung. The king was a passionate architect and artist, and he personally oversaw the design and construction of the palace. The water that flows through the gardens comes from a sacred spring, believed to have healing properties. The palace served as a royal retreat and a place for religious ceremonies. Sadly, the original structure was partially destroyed by the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963, but it has since been lovingly restored. Visitors to Taman Tirtagangga can enjoy a variety of activities. The most popular is simply strolling through the gardens, admiring the intricate sculptures and the serene atmosphere. You can also swim in the public pools (for a small fee), feed the koi fish that inhabit the ponds, or enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants overlooking the gardens. The unique culinary experience here involves enjoying fresh seafood and traditional Balinese dishes while surrounded by the beauty of the water palace.

The best way to reach Taman Tirtagangga is by hiring a private driver or joining a tour. The drive from Ubud takes approximately 1.5-2 hours. Parking is available near the entrance to the gardens.
