Chandrashila Peak: Summit of Serenity Guide

Chandrashila Peak, meaning "Moon Rock," is a summit in the Tungnath range of the Himalayas, offering unparalleled 360-degree views of the majestic peaks, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and Kedar Dome. This peak is a popular destination for trekkers and pilgrims alike, as it is easily accessible and provides a rewarding experience with its stunning vistas and spiritual significance. Chandrashila Peak is closely associated with the Tungnath Temple, one of the Panch Kedar temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Legend has it that Lord Rama meditated on this peak to atone for the sin of killing Ravana. It is also believed that Ravana himself performed penance to Lord Shiva on this very peak. The Tungnath Temple, located just below the summit, is considered to be the highest Shiva temple in the world. The trek to Chandrashila Peak typically starts from Chopta, a picturesque meadow known as "Mini Switzerland." The trail passes through the Tungnath Temple and continues to the summit. The trek is moderately challenging and takes about 3-4 hours to complete. The best time to visit Chandrashila Peak is during the spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) months when the weather is pleasant and the views are clear. Camping is possible near Chopta, and basic accommodation is available in the village. While there are no specific culinary traditions associated with the peak itself, you can find simple meals and snacks in Chopta and Tungnath.
