Lake Pichola Guide
Lake Pichola: Udaipur's Jewel, a Symphony of Water and Palaces Guide
Lake Pichola, an artificial freshwater lake, is the heart and soul of Udaipur, Rajasthan. Surrounded by majestic palaces, temples, bathing ghats, and elevated hills, it offers a picturesque and romantic setting. A boat ride on the lake is an absolute must for any visitor to Udaipur, providing stunning views of the City Palace, Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, and the surrounding Aravalli hills. Lake Pichola was created in 1362 AD by Pichhu Bamar, a Banjara tribesman, during the reign of Maharana Lakha. Impressed by the lake's beauty, Maharana Udai Singh II, the founder of Udaipur, enlarged it and constructed a masonry dam. The lake derives its name from the nearby Picholi village. Over the centuries, the lake has been a witness to countless royal events, celebrations, and historical moments, adding to its rich cultural significance. Tourists can enjoy a boat ride on the lake, especially during sunset, to witness the magical transformation of the palaces as they are illuminated. Visit the Lake Palace (now a luxury hotel) and Jag Mandir, two stunning island palaces located on the lake. Explore the City Palace, which offers breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding city. Udaipur is renowned for its Rajasthani cuisine. Indulge in local delicacies like Dal Baati Churma, Gatte ki Sabzi, and Laal Maas at restaurants near the lake.
