Jag Mandir, a stunning palace located on an island in Lake Pichola, is one of Udaipur's most iconic landmarks. Construction of Jag Mandir began in the late 16th century by Maharana Amar Singh I, but it was completed by Maharana Jagat Singh I in the 17th century, after whom the palace is named. The palace served as a summer resort and pleasure palace for the royal family. It also provided refuge for Prince Khurram (later Emperor Shah Jahan) and his family when he rebelled against his father, Emperor Jahangir. The palace's architecture reflects a blend of Rajput and Mughal styles, showcasing the cultural exchange that occurred during that period. Visitors can explore the various courtyards, pavilions, and gardens of Jag Mandir. Highlights include the Gul Mahal, where Prince Khurram sought refuge, and the Bara Patharon ka Mahal, a grand hall with twelve pillars. Transportation
The only way to reach Jag Mandir is by boat from the City Palace or Bansi Ghat. Boats operate regularly throughout the day. Auto-rickshaws and taxis are readily available to take you to the City Palace or Bansi Ghat from anywhere in Udaipur.
