It's a place where the teachings of Ramana Maharshi continue to resonate, offering guidance and inspiration to visitors from all walks of life. Sri Ramana Maharshi, born Venkataraman Iyer in 1879, arrived in Thiruvannamalai as a young man and spent the rest of his life at Arunachala. He was recognized as a jivanmukta (liberated being) and attracted devotees from around the world with his simple yet profound teachings on self-inquiry. The ashram grew around him, becoming a center for spiritual practice and a place where seekers could experience the transformative power of his presence. He passed away in 1950, but his legacy lives on through the ashram and its continued dedication to his teachings. At Sri Ramana Ashram, visitors can participate in daily prayers, meditation sessions, and readings from Ramana Maharshi's teachings. The ashram also houses a library with a vast collection of spiritual books. The Old Hall, where Ramana Maharshi spent much of his time, is a particularly powerful place for meditation. The ashram provides simple, vegetarian meals for visitors. The dining hall offers a taste of traditional South Indian cuisine, prepared with devotion and served in a communal setting.
