Beatles Ashram (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram) Guide
Beatles Ashram: Where Music Met Meditation Guide
Step back in time and explore the legendary Beatles Ashram, officially known as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram, located just outside Rishikesh. This abandoned ashram, once a thriving spiritual retreat, gained international fame in 1968 when the Beatles came to study Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Today, it stands as a unique blend of history, art, and nature, attracting music lovers, spiritual seekers, and curious travelers alike. The ashram was established by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the 1960s and quickly became a popular destination for those seeking inner peace and enlightenment. The Beatles' visit catapulted the ashram to global fame, attracting a wave of followers and media attention. However, the ashram was abandoned in the 1970s and remained deserted for decades. In recent years, it has been reclaimed by nature and transformed into an open-air art gallery, with vibrant graffiti and murals adorning the walls of the abandoned buildings. Visiting the Beatles Ashram is a unique and unforgettable experience. Explore the abandoned meditation halls, wander through the overgrown gardens, and admire the stunning graffiti art that covers the walls. The ashram offers a glimpse into the past and a chance to connect with the spirit of the Beatles and their quest for spiritual enlightenment. While there are no specific culinary traditions within the ashram itself, you'll find numerous cafes and restaurants in nearby Tapovan offering a variety of Indian and international cuisine.
