Peace on High: The Vishwa Shanti Stupa, Rajgir Guide

The Vishwa Shanti Stupa, or World Peace Pagoda, in Rajgir is a magnificent white marble structure symbolizing peace and harmony. Perched atop Ratnagiri Hill, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This stupa is one of many built around the world by the Nipponzan-Myohoji Buddhist order, dedicated to promoting world peace. It's a serene and inspiring place to visit, offering a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The stupa was conceived by Fujii Guruji, a Japanese Buddhist monk, and completed in 1969. It stands as a testament to the teachings of Lord Buddha and the importance of peace in the world. Rajgir itself is a historically significant place, believed to be a favorite retreat of Lord Buddha. The stupa's location on Ratnagiri Hill adds to its spiritual significance, as it is believed that Buddha preached here. Visitors can reach the stupa by taking a ropeway (cable car) up Ratnagiri Hill, which is an experience in itself, offering stunning views. Once at the top, you can circumambulate the stupa, admiring the intricate carvings depicting scenes from Buddha's life. The peaceful atmosphere encourages meditation and reflection. The surrounding area also offers opportunities for hiking and exploring the natural beauty of Rajgir. While in Rajgir, try local Bihari cuisine at nearby restaurants. Litti Chokha, a popular dish made of wheat flour balls stuffed with roasted gram flour and served with mashed potatoes and eggplant, is a must-try.
