The Valley of Flowers was brought to the attention of the world in 1931 by Frank Smythe, a British mountaineer, who stumbled upon it while returning from a successful expedition to Mount Kamet. He was so captivated by the beauty of the valley that he wrote a book about it, aptly titled "The Valley of Flowers." The park was officially declared a national park in 1982 and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. Its pristine beauty and unique biodiversity have made it a popular destination for nature lovers, botanists, and trekkers from around the globe. Embark on a memorable trek through the valley, immersing yourself in the breathtaking scenery. The best time to visit is from July to September when the flowers are in full bloom. Marvel at the diverse array of alpine flowers, including orchids, poppies, primulas, marigolds, and daisies. Keep an eye out for the unique wildlife that inhabits the region, such as the snow leopard, musk deer, and various species of birds. The trek to the Valley of Flowers is moderately challenging and requires a permit from the forest department. While there are no specific culinary traditions within the valley itself, you can enjoy local Garhwali cuisine in Joshimath, the base camp for the trek.
