Dhanushkodi Beach Guide
Dhanushkodi Beach: Where Two Oceans Embrace Guide
Dhanushkodi Beach is more than just a stretch of sand; it's a place where the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean meet in a breathtaking display of natural beauty. This pristine beach, located at the tip of the ghost town of Dhanushkodi, offers stunning views, tranquil surroundings, and a unique opportunity to witness the power and serenity of the sea. It's a perfect escape for those seeking solitude and a connection with nature. The beach's history is intertwined with the tragic story of Dhanushkodi. Before the 1964 cyclone, it was a bustling port and a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. The cyclone, however, transformed the landscape, leaving behind a ghost town and a beach that bears witness to the forces of nature. Today, the beach stands as a reminder of the past and a symbol of resilience. Activities at Dhanushkodi Beach are centered around enjoying the natural beauty and tranquility. You can take a leisurely stroll along the shore, collect seashells, and watch the waves crash against the sand. The confluence of the two oceans creates a unique spectacle, with different shades of blue merging together. Jeep safaris are available to take you to the end of the beach, known as Arichal Munai, where you can get a closer look at the Adam's Bridge (Rama Setu). While there are no restaurants directly on the beach, vendors often sell snacks and drinks. For a more substantial meal, you can head to nearby Rameswaram, where you'll find a variety of South Indian restaurants offering fresh seafood and vegetarian dishes.
Transportation
Dhanushkodi Beach is accessible by jeep or taxi from Rameswaram. Shared jeeps are a common and affordable option. Public buses are available from Rameswaram to the check post before Dhanushkodi. From the check post, you will need to hire a jeep as private vehicles are not allowed beyond this point due to the sandy terrain. Alternatively, you can hire a taxi directly from Rameswaram that includes the jeep ride beyond the check post.
