Transportation

Vindbelgjarfjall is located on the western side of Lake Mývatn. It is best accessed by car. There is a parking area at the base of the mountain where the hiking trail begins. While bus route 56 travels around the lake, it doesn't stop directly at the trailhead. You would need to get off at a nearby stop and walk a considerable distance, making a car the most convenient option.
