Höfði is a charming peninsula jutting into Lake Mývatn in Northern Iceland, offering a tranquil escape amidst stunning natural beauty. Unlike the stark volcanic landscapes that often characterize the region, Höfði is a surprisingly lush and wooded area, providing a welcome contrast. The area was once a farm, but it was later reforested, creating the unique woodland environment that exists today. Höfði is also known for its unusual rock formations, including the iconic "Kálfaströnd pillars," which rise dramatically from the lake. These pillars are remnants of ancient lava flows that have been eroded by the elements over time. Transportation
Höfði is easily accessible by car. It's located just off Route 1 (the Ring Road) near Lake Mývatn. Follow the signs for Höfði. There is a parking area near the entrance to the peninsula. Like Hverfjall, relying solely on public transportation can be challenging in this region, so renting a car is highly recommended for exploring the Mývatn area.
