Floating in Serenity: Relax at Vök Baths Guide
Vök Baths are a unique geothermal spa located on Lake Urriðavatn, just outside of Egilsstaðir in East Iceland. These floating geothermal pools offer a truly immersive and relaxing experience, allowing you to soak in warm, mineral-rich waters while surrounded by stunning natural scenery. The baths are designed to blend seamlessly with the environment, creating a sense of harmony and tranquility. The concept of Vök Baths is rooted in the local history and folklore of the area. The name "Vök" refers to the ice-free patches that appear on Lake Urriðavatn during the winter months, indicating the presence of geothermal activity beneath the surface. For centuries, locals have known about the warm springs in the lake, and Vök Baths were created to harness this natural resource in a sustainable and enjoyable way. Visitors can enjoy soaking in the various geothermal pools, which range in temperature and depth. There is also a sauna, a cold tub, and a restaurant serving locally sourced food and drinks. You can even take a refreshing dip in the lake itself! The water at Vök Baths is naturally clean and rich in minerals, which are said to have therapeutic benefits. The restaurant offers a variety of Icelandic dishes, often incorporating local ingredients and traditional recipes.
