Old Harbour (Palio Limani) Guide

Step Back in Time: Explore the Charm and History of Spetses' Old Harbour Guide

The Old Harbour, or Palio Limani, of Spetses is a picturesque and historically significant area that offers visitors a glimpse into the island's maritime past. Unlike the modern harbor, Dapia, which handles most of the ferry traffic, the Old Harbour retains a more traditional and tranquil atmosphere. It's a place where you can wander along the waterfront, admire the traditional boatyards, and soak in the authentic charm of Spetses. Historically, the Old Harbour was the center of shipbuilding and maritime activity on Spetses. The island was renowned for its skilled shipbuilders, and many of the ships that played a crucial role in the Greek War of Independence were built here. Even today, you can witness traditional boat-building techniques being practiced in the remaining boatyards, a testament to the island's enduring maritime heritage. A visit to the Old Harbour offers a variety of activities. Stroll along the waterfront promenade, admiring the traditional wooden boats and the charming architecture. Observe the skilled craftsmen at work in the boatyards, learning about the art of shipbuilding. Enjoy a meal at one of the waterfront tavernas, savoring fresh seafood and local Greek dishes while taking in the scenic views. The Old Harbour is also a great starting point for exploring the nearby beaches and coves by boat. Spetses is known for its Amygdalota, a traditional almond sweet, which you can find in local shops near the harbor.
