Angelokastro, perched atop the highest peak of Corfu's northwest coast, is a Byzantine fortress offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Ionian Sea. Today, visitors can explore the ruins of Angelokastro, marveling at its impressive architecture and strategic location. The climb to the top can be challenging, but the reward is well worth the effort. While there are no restaurants directly at the fortress, nearby villages offer traditional Greek cuisine. Look for tavernas serving fresh seafood and local specialties like bourdeto (fish stew) and tsigareli (wild greens cooked in tomato sauce).
Transportation
Reaching Angelokastro requires a bit of effort, but the journey is part of the adventure. The most common way to get there is by car or scooter. From Corfu Town, follow the signs to Paleokastritsa and then to Krini. From Krini, follow the signs to Angelokastro. Be aware that the road leading to the fortress is narrow and winding. Parking is available near the base of the fortress, but it can get crowded during peak season. From the parking area, it's a steep climb up a stone path to the entrance of the fortress. Wear comfortable shoes!
