Lusamgärtchen Guide
Lusamgärtchen: A Poet's Resting Place and a Haven of Tranquility Guide
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and find serenity in the Lusamgärtchen, a small, peaceful garden nestled in the heart of Würzburg. This hidden gem is not only a tranquil oasis but also the final resting place of the renowned medieval minnesinger Walther von der Vogelweide. It's a place for quiet reflection and a connection to the city's literary past. Walther von der Vogelweide, one of the most celebrated poets of the Middle Ages, spent his final years in Würzburg. He was a master of the minnesang, a form of lyrical poetry that flourished in the German-speaking lands during the 12th and 13th centuries. His poems often celebrated love, nature, and the virtues of chivalry. After his death, he was buried in the Neumünster church, and later, his remains were moved to the Lusamgärtchen, where a simple tombstone marks his grave. Visitors to the Lusamgärtchen can stroll through the peaceful garden, admire the flowers and greenery, and pay their respects to Walther von der Vogelweide. Take a moment to read some of his poems, which are displayed on plaques throughout the garden. The Lusamgärtchen is a perfect place to relax, read a book, or simply enjoy the tranquility of nature. While the garden itself doesn't offer any culinary experiences, it's located near many cafes and restaurants in the city center where you can sample local Franconian specialties.
Transportation
The Lusamgärtchen is located in the city center and is easily accessible on foot. It's a short walk from the Dom (Cathedral) and the Residenz. You can also take tram lines 1, 3, or 5 to the 'Domstraße' stop, which is a short walk from the garden.
