Westküstenpark & Robbarium Guide
Westküstenpark & Robbarium: Where Wildlife Meets the Wadden Sea! Guide
Welcome to the Westküstenpark & Robbarium in Sankt Peter-Ording, a unique destination that combines a wildlife park with a seal sanctuary. This isn't just your average zoo; it's a place where you can get up close and personal with animals native to the North Sea coast and learn about the delicate ecosystem of the Wadden Sea. Prepare for a day of discovery, laughter, and maybe even a little bit of seal-induced cuteness overload! The Westküstenpark has a long history of animal care and conservation. It started as a small bird sanctuary and gradually expanded to include a wider range of animals, with the Robbarium (seal sanctuary) becoming a major highlight. The park plays a crucial role in rescuing and rehabilitating seals found injured or orphaned along the coast. These seals are cared for until they are healthy enough to be released back into the wild. The park also participates in breeding programs for endangered species, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity in the region. A visit to the Westküstenpark offers a variety of activities. Of course, watching the seal feeding is a must-do! You can also explore the various enclosures housing animals like sheep, goats, birds, and even a few exotic species. There are interactive exhibits that teach about the Wadden Sea and its inhabitants. For the little ones, there are playgrounds and petting zoos. And if you're feeling peckish, the park has several restaurants and snack bars offering traditional German fare and seaside treats. Don't forget to try a Fischbrötchen (fish sandwich), a North Sea staple!
