Reach for the Sky: Experience Jena from the Jentower Guide

The Jentower, also known as the "Jenaer Bustier" (Jena Bustle) by locals, is Jena's most recognizable landmark and the tallest building in Thuringia. This iconic skyscraper offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the surrounding Saale Valley. A visit to the Jentower is a must for anyone wanting to experience Jena from a unique perspective. Construction of the Jentower began in 1968 and was completed in 1972. It was originally built as the research and development center for the Carl Zeiss Jena optical company. The tower's distinctive cylindrical shape and the rotating restaurant at the top quickly made it a symbol of Jena and a testament to the city's industrial and scientific prowess during the GDR era. Visitors can ascend to the observation deck for stunning 360-degree views of Jena and the surrounding countryside. The rotating restaurant, Scala, offers a unique dining experience with panoramic views that change as you eat. The tower also houses offices and a shopping arcade. While the restaurant offers a modern culinary experience, Jena boasts a variety of traditional Thuringian restaurants where you can sample local specialties like Thuringian dumplings and Rostbratwurst.
