Tiger & Turtle – Magic Mountain Guide
Tiger & Turtle: Walkable Rollercoaster with a View Guide
Experience a unique blend of art, architecture, and adventure at Tiger & Turtle – Magic Mountain in Duisburg! This extraordinary landmark, resembling a rollercoaster, is actually a walkable sculpture that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. A true testament to creative ingenuity, Tiger & Turtle is a must-see attraction for those seeking an unconventional and unforgettable experience. Designed by artists Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth, Tiger & Turtle – Magic Mountain was completed in 2011. The sculpture's name reflects its dual nature: the "Tiger" represents the speed and thrill of a rollercoaster, while the "Turtle" symbolizes the slow, deliberate pace of walking. The structure is made of steel and zinc, and its winding pathways invite visitors to climb and explore its curves and loops. While the loop-the-loop is not walkable, the rest of the sculpture offers a challenging and rewarding climb. Visitors can ascend the Tiger & Turtle sculpture and enjoy stunning views of the Rhine River, the city of Duisburg, and the surrounding industrial landscape. The sculpture is particularly impressive at night when it is illuminated with LED lights, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. The surrounding parkland provides a pleasant space for picnics and relaxation. While there are no specific culinary traditions associated with the site itself, you can find a variety of restaurants and cafes in the nearby Wanheim district, offering everything from traditional German cuisine to international flavors.
