Eiði Guide
Eiði: Football Field on a Cliff and Stunning Coastal Views Guide
Discover the picturesque village of Eiði, located on the northern tip of Eysturoy island. Eiði is known for its dramatic coastal scenery, including the iconic football field perched precariously on a cliff edge. This charming village offers a glimpse into traditional Faroese life and is a great base for exploring the northern part of the islands. Eiði has a long history as a fishing and farming community. The area was once an important whaling station, and remnants of this history can still be seen today. The village's name, Eiði, means "isthmus" in Faroese, referring to the narrow strip of land that connects the village to the rest of Eysturoy. In Eiði, you can visit the famous football field, hike to the top of Slættaratindur, the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands (weather permitting), or explore the nearby Gjógv gorge. The village also has a small church and a local museum. While Eiði doesn't have specific culinary traditions unique to the village, you can find traditional Faroese cuisine at the local guesthouse or in nearby villages. Be sure to try the skerpikjøt (wind-dried mutton) or the fresh fish soup.
