The Temple of Seti I, located in Abydos, is considered one of the most beautiful and well-preserved temples in Egypt. Unlike the temples in Luxor, Abydos is a bit further afield, requiring a dedicated trip, but the journey is well worth it. The temple is renowned for its exquisite reliefs and its unique dedication to seven deities, including Seti I himself. It offers a fascinating insight into ancient Egyptian religious beliefs and artistic achievements. Construction of the temple was begun by Seti I during his reign (1290-1279 BC) and completed by his son, Ramesses II. Abydos was an important cult center for Osiris, the god of the afterlife, and the Temple of Seti I was built near the supposed burial place of Osiris's head. The temple's most famous feature is the Abydos King List, a chronological list of pharaohs from the early dynastic period to Seti I, which provides valuable historical information. Visitors can explore the temple's seven sanctuaries, each dedicated to a different deity, and admire the incredibly detailed and well-preserved reliefs that adorn the walls. The Osireion, a mysterious subterranean structure located behind the temple, is also a must-see.
