Cairo Opera House Guide
A Night at the Opera: Experience Culture and Elegance in Cairo Guide
The Cairo Opera House is the main performing arts venue in the Egyptian capital, home to most of Egypt's finest music groups, including the Cairo Opera Company, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, and the Cairo Ballet Company. It offers a diverse program of performances, from classical opera and ballet to contemporary music and dance, providing a cultural experience for all tastes. The original Cairo Opera House was built in 1869 to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal. However, it was destroyed by fire in 1971. The current Opera House, also known as the National Cultural Centre, was a gift from Japan and opened in 1988. It stands as a symbol of cultural exchange and artistic collaboration between Egypt and Japan. Attend a performance at the Main Hall, a grand auditorium that hosts opera, ballet, and orchestral concerts. Enjoy a smaller, more intimate performance at the Small Hall or the Open-Air Theatre. Take a guided tour of the Opera House to learn about its history and architecture. Visit the museum to see exhibits on the history of opera in Egypt. Enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants or cafes within the Opera House complex.

The Gezira (Opera) metro station (Line 3) is the most convenient way to reach the Cairo Opera House. Several buses also stop near the Opera House, including routes 73, 900, and 989. Taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available.
