Cerro Tijeretas, also known as Frigatebird Hill, is a prominent landmark on San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos. This elevated viewpoint offers breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline, including Darwin Bay and the surrounding islands. It's also a fantastic spot to observe frigatebirds, known for their distinctive red throat pouches, as they soar through the air. Cerro Tijeretas holds historical significance as one of the first landing sites of Charles Darwin during his voyage on the HMS Beagle. It was here that he began to observe the unique flora and fauna of the Galapagos, which ultimately contributed to his theory of evolution. The clear waters are teeming with colorful fish and other marine life. Transportation
Cerro Tijeretas is easily accessible from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal Island. It's a short walk from the town center, approximately 15-20 minutes. Follow the marked trail from the Interpretation Center. Taxis are also available for a quick ride to the trailhead.
