Garrapatero Beach is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering a peaceful retreat from the more crowded areas of Santa Cruz Island. The beach is named after the "garrapatero" or tick bird, which is commonly found in the area. The surrounding landscape is characterized by mangrove forests, lagoons, and volcanic rock formations, creating a diverse and beautiful ecosystem. At Garrapatero Beach, you can enjoy a variety of activities. Take a refreshing swim in the turquoise waters, sunbathe on the soft sand, or explore the mangrove forests by kayak. The lagoon behind the beach is a great place to spot flamingos, white-cheeked pintails, and other bird species. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a relaxing day surrounded by nature. While there are no restaurants directly on the beach, you can find a variety of dining options in nearby Puerto Ayora, offering fresh seafood and traditional Ecuadorian cuisine.
