Teleferico Quito Guide
Ascend to New Heights: Experience Quito from the Teleferico Guide
The Teleferico Quito is one of the highest aerial lifts in the world, whisking visitors from the city center up the slopes of the Pichincha volcano to Cruz Loma. From Cruz Loma, you'll be rewarded with unparalleled panoramic views of Quito, the surrounding valleys, and on a clear day, even the snow-capped peaks of other volcanoes. This is a must-do experience for anyone visiting Quito, offering a unique perspective on the city's stunning geography. The Teleferico was built to provide access to the upper reaches of the Pichincha volcano for recreational purposes. It opened in 2005 and quickly became a popular tourist attraction. The ride itself is an experience, as you ascend through different ecosystems, from the urban landscape to the high-altitude paramo. The air gets noticeably thinner as you climb, so take it easy and enjoy the scenery. At Cruz Loma, you can hike to even higher viewpoints, explore the surrounding paramo ecosystem, or simply relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. There are also several cafes and restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat or a warm drink. For the adventurous, there are opportunities for mountain biking and horseback riding. Be sure to dress warmly, as the weather at this altitude can be unpredictable.
Transportation
The Teleferico is best reached by taxi or bus. Many buses run along Avenida Occidental (also known as Mariscal Sucre) and can drop you off near the Teleferico station. Look for buses with signs indicating 'Teleferico'. Taxis are readily available throughout Quito and are a convenient option, especially if you're traveling in a group.
