Napo Wildlife Center: Immerse Yourself in Amazonian Biodiversity! Guide

The Napo Wildlife Center is a premier eco-lodge located deep within the Yasuní National Park, accessible from Puyo via a combination of land and river transportation. This community-owned lodge offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest. It's a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, birdwatchers, and anyone seeking an immersive and sustainable travel experience. The Napo Wildlife Center is owned and operated by the Añangu community, an indigenous Kichwa community that has lived in the Yasuní region for generations. The lodge was established to provide a sustainable source of income for the community while protecting the rainforest and its wildlife. By staying at the Napo Wildlife Center, you are directly supporting the community's conservation efforts. Activities at the Napo Wildlife Center include guided rainforest hikes, canoe trips on the Napo River and surrounding lakes, birdwatching excursions, and visits to the canopy tower for breathtaking views of the rainforest canopy. You'll have the chance to see a wide variety of wildlife, including monkeys, macaws, toucans, caimans, and possibly even jaguars. The lodge also offers cultural experiences, such as learning about traditional Kichwa customs and crafts. Meals at the lodge feature fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including fish, fruits, and vegetables. Traditional Kichwa dishes are often served, providing a taste of the local culture.

Transportation

Reaching the Napo Wildlife Center requires pre-arranged transportation through the lodge. Typically, this involves a bus or private vehicle from Puyo to Coca (Francisco de Orellana), followed by a motorized canoe trip down the Napo River to the lodge. The entire journey can take several hours.
