The Wallenstein Loggia, also known as the Loggia Valdštejna, is a stunning example of early Baroque architecture in Jičín. Commissioned by Albrecht von Wallenstein, Duke of Friedland, in the 17th century, this open-air gallery was intended to be a part of a grand palace complex that was never fully realized. Albrecht von Wallenstein, a powerful and controversial figure in the Thirty Years' War, envisioned Jičín as the capital of his duchy. He embarked on an ambitious building program, including the construction of a vast palace, gardens, and the Loggia. The Loggia was designed as a place for relaxation, entertainment, and display of Wallenstein's power and wealth. However, Wallenstein's assassination in 1634 brought an abrupt end to his plans, and the palace complex was never completed. Visitors can admire the Loggia's elegant arcades, intricate stucco work, and the statues that adorn its facade.
