White Tower Guide
Ascend to History: Panoramic Views from the White Tower Guide
Welcome to the White Tower, a dominant landmark of Hradec Králové and a must-see for any visitor. This Renaissance-era bell tower offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscape. Prepare to climb its winding staircase and be rewarded with an unforgettable vista that stretches for miles. The White Tower's history dates back to the 16th century, commissioned by the city council as a symbol of their wealth and power. Construction began in 1574 and was completed in 1580. It served primarily as a bell tower, housing the massive Augustine bell, one of the largest in the Czech Republic. The tower has survived fires, wars, and the passage of time, standing as a testament to the city's resilience. Its white facade, achieved through the use of light-colored sandstone, gives the tower its distinctive name. Visitors can climb the 226 steps to the top of the tower for stunning views. Inside, you can also see the Augustine bell and learn about the tower's history through informative displays. The climb is moderately challenging, but the reward is well worth the effort. Don't forget your camera!
