Kamenice Gorge: A Boat Ride Through Bohemian Switzerland's Heart Guide
Prepare to be enchanted by the Kamenice Gorge, a breathtaking natural wonder nestled within the Bohemian Switzerland National Park. This stunning gorge, carved by the Kamenice River, offers a unique and unforgettable experience as you navigate its depths by boat. The towering sandstone cliffs, lush vegetation, and crystal-clear waters create a magical atmosphere that will leave you in awe. It's a must-see for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The history of the Kamenice Gorge is intertwined with the development of tourism in the region. In the late 19th century, visionary locals recognized the potential of the gorge and began constructing pathways and weirs to make it accessible to visitors. The first boat trips were offered in 1877, and the tradition continues to this day. The gorge has become a symbol of Bohemian Switzerland, attracting visitors from around the world. The main activity in Kamenice Gorge is undoubtedly the boat ride. Two sections of the gorge, Edmund's Gorge (also known as Silent Gorge) and Wild Gorge, are navigable by flat-bottomed boats. The boatmen use poles to propel the boats through the narrow passages, sharing stories and information about the gorge's history and natural features. You can also hike along the trails that run alongside the river, enjoying the scenery from different perspectives. The area around Hřensko also offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, and rock climbing. While not specifically known for a unique culinary tradition within the gorge itself, Hřensko offers traditional Czech cuisine in its restaurants.
