Alagadi Turtle Beach: Witness Nature's Miracle Guide

Alagadi Turtle Beach, also known as Turtle Beach, is a protected stretch of golden sand located near Kyrenia, North Cyprus. It's a haven for nature lovers and those seeking a tranquil escape. This beach is renowned as one of the most important nesting sites for endangered Green and Loggerhead sea turtles in the Mediterranean. The clear, warm waters and soft sand make it an ideal spot for relaxation and swimming, while the surrounding landscape offers stunning views. The significance of Alagadi Beach lies in its role as a crucial breeding ground for sea turtles. Every year, from May to August, female turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs in the sand. Volunteers and conservationists work tirelessly to protect the nests from predators and human interference. The eggs incubate for about two months, and the hatchlings emerge, making their perilous journey to the sea. This natural spectacle is a truly unforgettable experience. Visitors to Alagadi Turtle Beach can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and simply relaxing on the sand. Guided turtle watching tours are available during the nesting season, offering a chance to witness the turtles laying their eggs or the hatchlings making their way to the ocean (always with respect for the animals and their environment). There are also basic facilities available, such as sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, and a small cafe for refreshments. Remember to be mindful of the turtles and their habitat by avoiding bright lights and loud noises at night, and by not disturbing the nests.
