A Heartfelt Collection: Museum of Broken Relationships Guide

The Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb is a unique and thought-provoking museum dedicated to failed love relationships. It's a place where people from all over the world can donate objects that represent their past relationships, accompanied by a brief description of their significance. The museum offers a poignant and often humorous look at the universal experience of heartbreak. The museum was founded by Olinka Vištica and Dražen Grubišić, two artists from Zagreb, after their own relationship ended. They initially started collecting personal objects from their relationship and then invited friends to contribute their own mementos of lost love. The collection grew rapidly, and in 2010, the Museum of Broken Relationships officially opened its doors. It has since become a popular tourist attraction and has won several awards for its innovative concept. Visitors to the museum can explore a diverse collection of objects, ranging from everyday items like photographs and letters to more unusual items like wedding dresses and prosthetic limbs. Each object is accompanied by a short story that provides context and insight into the relationship it represents. The museum is not just about sadness and loss; it also celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the ability to move on after heartbreak. The museum also has a gift shop where you can purchase unique souvenirs, such as "bad memories eraser" or "relationship first aid kit".
