Welcome to Fruit Square, or Voćni Trg as the locals call it, a charming open space in the heart of Split's historic center. It's a must-see for any visitor looking to soak up the authentic atmosphere of Split. Historically, Fruit Square was once the site of Split's main fruit market, hence the name. But its significance goes deeper. During the Venetian rule, a Venetian castle stood here, a symbol of their power. While the castle is long gone, the square retains its historical charm, surrounded by beautiful buildings, including the Milesi Palace and the octagonal Venetian Tower, a remnant of the former castle. The square has witnessed centuries of trade, celebrations, and everyday life, making it a living testament to Split's rich past. Today, Fruit Square is a delightful place to relax and people-watch. Transportation
Fruit Square is located in the heart of Split's Old Town and is easily accessible on foot. From the Riva (waterfront promenade), simply walk inland through the Silver Gate of Diocletian's Palace and follow the signs. It's a short and pleasant stroll. If you're arriving by bus or train, the main station is a short walk to the east of the Old Town. From there, walk west along the Riva and enter the Old Town through the Silver Gate.
