In the Footsteps of a Legend: Marco Polo House Guide
Explore the alleged birthplace of the legendary explorer Marco Polo at the Marco Polo House in Korčula Town. While the exact location of his birth remains a subject of debate, Korčula proudly claims him as one of its own. The house, or what remains of it, offers a glimpse into the potential origins of this famous traveler and provides stunning views of the surrounding area. The historical evidence linking Marco Polo definitively to Korčula is debated, but local tradition strongly associates him with the island. The house, believed to be the ancestral home of the Polo family, has been partially restored and offers visitors a chance to learn about the explorer's life and travels. While much of the original structure is gone, the remaining tower provides a unique vantage point. Visitors can climb the tower of the Marco Polo House for panoramic views of Korčula Town and the surrounding sea. Inside, exhibits showcase information about Marco Polo's life, his travels to the Far East, and his connection to Korčula. While the exhibits are limited, the experience offers a chance to connect with the legend of Marco Polo and imagine his early life on this beautiful island. Afterwards, enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants in Korčula Town, perhaps trying *brodet*, a traditional fish stew.
