Pakleni Islands Guide
Pakleni Islands: A Paradise of Islets and Azure Waters Guide
The Pakleni Islands (also known as Paklinski Islands) are a stunning archipelago located just off the coast of Hvar Town. This collection of wooded islets, fringed with secluded coves and pristine beaches, offers a diverse range of experiences, from lively beach clubs to tranquil swimming spots. The name "Pakleni" translates to "pitch" or "hellish," a reference to the pine resin once used for shipbuilding. Today, however, the islands are anything but hellish, offering a paradise for boaters, sun-seekers, and nature lovers. While the islands themselves don't have a significant historical narrative in terms of grand battles or royal residences, their history is intertwined with the maritime heritage of Hvar. For centuries, the islands provided shelter for sailors and fishermen, and their natural resources were used for shipbuilding and other industries. The islands' strategic location also made them important for defense, and remnants of old fortifications can still be found in some areas. The Pakleni Islands offer a plethora of activities. Rent a boat or take a water taxi to explore the various coves and beaches. Carpe Diem Beach on Stipanska Island is famous for its vibrant nightlife, while other islands like Jerolim and Palmizana offer more relaxed atmospheres. Swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, and diving are all popular activities. Several restaurants and beach bars offer delicious food and refreshing drinks, allowing you to enjoy the stunning scenery while indulging in local flavors.
Transportation
The primary mode of transportation to the Pakleni Islands is by boat. Water taxis operate frequently from Hvar Town harbor to various islands within the archipelago. You can also rent your own boat or join an organized boat tour.
