El Avion: Dine Inside a Piece of History Guide

El Avion Restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it's a unique and unforgettable dining experience. Perched on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this restaurant's centerpiece is a real C-123 Fairchild cargo plane, famously used in the Iran-Contra affair. Diners can enjoy delicious food and drinks while exploring the inside of the plane, taking photos, and soaking in the stunning views. The C-123 Fairchild cargo plane that houses El Avion has a fascinating and somewhat controversial history. It was allegedly used to transport weapons to the Contras in Nicaragua during the Iran-Contra affair in the 1980s. After being decommissioned, the plane was purchased and transported to Manuel Antonio, where it was transformed into the iconic restaurant it is today. The plane serves as a tangible reminder of a complex period in history and adds a unique layer of intrigue to the dining experience. At El Avion, you can explore the interior of the plane, which has been converted into a bar and seating area. The cockpit is a popular spot for photos, and the wings offer panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding rainforest. The restaurant serves a variety of dishes, including fresh seafood, traditional Costa Rican cuisine, and international favorites. Enjoy a cocktail while watching the sunset, or savor a delicious meal while surrounded by the plane's unique ambiance. The restaurant also features outdoor seating areas with stunning views.
