Trek Among Giants: Discover the Beauty of Cocora Valley on Foot Guide

Immerse yourself in the natural splendor of the Cocora Valley with a memorable hike through its iconic landscape. This is the perfect way to experience the towering wax palms up close and personal, while enjoying the fresh mountain air and breathtaking views. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a casual walker, there's a trail for every fitness level in this stunning Colombian destination. The Cocora Valley offers a variety of hiking trails, ranging from easy strolls to more challenging treks that lead into the surrounding cloud forest. The most popular hike is the loop trail that takes you through the valley, past the wax palms, and into the cloud forest. This trail typically takes around 4-6 hours to complete, depending on your pace and how much time you spend admiring the scenery. Be prepared for some muddy sections, especially during the rainy season. During your hike, you'll have the opportunity to witness the incredible biodiversity of the Cocora Valley. Keep an eye out for colorful birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. As you ascend into the cloud forest, you'll be surrounded by lush vegetation and the sounds of nature. Remember to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen, as the sun can be strong at this altitude. After your hike, reward yourself with a delicious *bandeja paisa*, a traditional Colombian dish, at one of the local restaurants in Salento.

Transportation

To reach the starting point of most Cocora Valley hikes, take a Willy (Jeep) from Salento's main square. These Jeeps depart frequently throughout the day. Inform the driver that you want to be dropped off at the entrance to the hiking trails. From there, you can choose the trail that best suits your interests and fitness level.
