Acaime: A Hummingbird Haven in the Clouds Guide
Nestled high in the breathtaking Cocora Valley, Acaime Hummingbird Sanctuary offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers. This small, family-run reserve is dedicated to the conservation of these tiny jewels and provides a unique opportunity to observe them up close in their natural habitat. It's a must-see for anyone visiting the region. Acaime's history is rooted in a commitment to preserving the delicate ecosystem of the Cocora Valley. The sanctuary was established to provide a safe haven for hummingbirds, whose populations are threatened by habitat loss. Through sustainable practices and ecotourism, Acaime contributes to the long-term protection of these fascinating creatures and the surrounding environment. The family who runs the sanctuary are passionate about their work and eager to share their knowledge with visitors. Visitors to Acaime can enjoy a short hike through the cloud forest, culminating in a viewing platform where feeders attract a dazzling array of hummingbird species. The entrance fee includes a warm drink (often hot chocolate or agua de panela) and a chance to relax and soak in the incredible atmosphere. Keep an eye out for other wildlife, including various bird species and colorful butterflies. The experience is truly magical and provides a deeper appreciation for the biodiversity of the Cocora Valley.
