Huangshi Village Guide

A Bird's-Eye View: Ascend to Huangshi Village in Zhangjiajie Guide

Huangshi Village, also known as Yellow Stone Village, is a scenic area located within the Wulingyuan Scenic Area in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Hunan Province, China. It's renowned for its stunning panoramic views of the surrounding sandstone peaks, deep valleys, and lush forests. Reaching an altitude of over 1,000 meters, Huangshi Village offers a breathtaking perspective of the unique geological formations that make Zhangjiajie famous. While not a historical site in the traditional sense, Huangshi Village has its own legends and folklore. The name "Huangshi" (Yellow Stone) is said to be derived from a hermit named Huangshi Gong, who lived in the area and was known for his wisdom and knowledge. The village itself is more of a collection of viewpoints and trails developed for tourism, allowing visitors to appreciate the natural beauty of the landscape. The primary activity for tourists at Huangshi Village is sightseeing and hiking. You can ascend to the village by cable car or by climbing a series of steps (a more challenging but rewarding experience). Once at the top, you can explore various viewpoints, such as Star-Picking Platform, Five Finger Peak, and Golden Turtle in the Sea, each offering unique perspectives of the surrounding scenery. There are also several walking trails that wind through the village, allowing you to immerse yourself in the natural environment. While Huangshi Village itself doesn't have a specific culinary tradition, Zhangjiajie is known for its spicy Hunan cuisine. Be sure to try local specialties like Tujia Smoked Meat and Sangzhi Salted Fish.
