Dominating the landscape near Tiger Leaping Gorge, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Snow Mountain) is a breathtaking massif of thirteen peaks, perpetually capped with snow and ice. This sacred mountain holds a special place in the hearts of the local Naxi people and offers a stunning backdrop to the dramatic scenery of the gorge. While the highest peak is inaccessible, visitors can ascend to a considerable altitude via cable car, experiencing the unique alpine environment and enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and glaciers. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain has been revered by the Naxi people for centuries, featuring prominently in their Dongba religion and mythology. The mountain is considered a sacred protector and is associated with various deities and spirits. The name "Jade Dragon" comes from the mountain's resemblance to a jade dragon lying in the clouds. The mountain's glaciers are also a significant source of water for the region, playing a vital role in the local ecosystem. For tourists, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain offers a range of activities. The most popular is taking the cable car to Glacier Park, located at an altitude of over 4,500 meters. From here, you can walk along wooden boardwalks and admire the glaciers and snow-covered peaks.
