Termas de Puritama Guide
Soak in Serenity: Puritama Hot Springs Guide
Escape to the Termas de Puritama, a natural hot spring oasis nestled in a stunning canyon near San Pedro de Atacama. These eight geothermal pools cascade down the rocky landscape, offering a unique and rejuvenating experience amidst the arid beauty of the Atacama Desert. The mineral-rich waters are naturally heated by volcanic activity, providing therapeutic benefits and a tranquil escape from the desert heat. While not steeped in ancient history, the Termas de Puritama have long been recognized by the local indigenous communities for their healing properties. The name "Puritama" itself comes from the Kunza language, the language of the AtacameƱo people, and translates roughly to "hot waters." The site has been developed with respect for the natural environment, allowing visitors to enjoy the springs in a sustainable and responsible manner. Visitors can relax and soak in the various pools, each offering a slightly different temperature. The pools are connected by wooden walkways, making it easy to move between them. Changing rooms, restrooms, and a small cafe are available on-site. Remember to bring your own towel, swimsuit, and sunscreen. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition directly linked to the Termas, the on-site cafe offers refreshments and light meals. You can also find excellent AtacameƱo cuisine in nearby San Pedro de Atacama.
