Muttart Conservatory Guide
Muttart Conservatory: Pyramids of Botanical Wonder Guide
The Muttart Conservatory is one of Edmonton's most iconic landmarks, instantly recognizable by its four striking pyramids. Each pyramid houses a different biome, offering visitors a journey through diverse plant life from around the world. This botanical garden provides a unique and immersive experience, perfect for nature lovers, families, and anyone seeking a tranquil escape within the city. Opened in 1976, the Muttart Conservatory was designed by architect Peter Hemingway. The four pyramids, constructed of glass and steel, represent different climatic zones: Arid, Temperate, Tropical, and Feature. The Feature pyramid changes seasonally, showcasing a variety of themed displays throughout the year. The conservatory is named after the Muttart Foundation, which provided significant funding for its construction. Visitors can explore each pyramid at their own pace, discovering a wide array of plants and flowers. The Arid pyramid features cacti, succulents, and desert landscapes. The Temperate pyramid showcases plants from temperate regions around the world. The Tropical pyramid is a lush rainforest environment with exotic plants and waterfalls. The Feature pyramid offers rotating displays, such as holiday-themed gardens or collections of rare and unusual plants. The Muttart Conservatory also has a gift shop and cafe.
