Fort Edmonton Park is a living history museum that brings Edmonton's past to life. Spanning over 158 acres, the park recreates different eras of Edmonton's history, from the fur trade era to the early 20th century. The park's history began in 1967, when the City of Edmonton established it as a centennial project. The original fort, built by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1795, was the first European settlement in the area. Over the years, the park has expanded to include four distinct streetscapes representing different periods: 1846 Fort Edmonton, 1885 Street, 1905 Street, and 1920 Street. Each streetscape offers a unique glimpse into the architecture, businesses, and social life of its respective era. At Fort Edmonton Park, visitors can ride a steam train, explore the reconstructed fort, visit a working blacksmith shop, and experience a traditional Indigenous encampment. You can also take a ride on the streetcar, watch a silent movie at the Capitol Theatre, or enjoy a meal at one of the park's restaurants.
